Siu Ban Ci, Concubine of Prabu Brawijaya from China who changed the history of Java

Siu Ban Ci, Concubine of Prabu Brawijaya from China who changed the history of Java

Prabu Brawijaya, who is thought to be the last king of the Majapahit Kingdom, fell in love at first sight, when he looked at a beautiful girl named Siu Ban Ci. This Muslim girl of Chinese descent came to the Majapahit Palace to accompany her father, Sheikh Betong or Tan Go Hwat.

Sheikh Betong, also known as Kyai Betong, came to Prabu Brawijaya at the Majapahit Palace, to ask for permission to trade in the Keling area. Sheikh Bentong was a rich merchant, who was also a great scholar.

When facing Prabu Brawijaya, Sheikh Bentong also brought various offerings, namely jade from China, silk cloth, Chinese ceramics, incense and pearls. However, it wasn't the gift that made Prabu Brawijaya interested, but he was captivated by Siu Ban Ci's beauty. Secretly, the empress of the Majapahit Kingdom, Dewi Amarawati or Princess Champa felt jealous when she saw Prabu Brawijaya starting to become enamored with Siu Ban Ci. In the midst of the empress's jealousy, Prabu Brawijaya actually invited Sheikh Bentong and his daughter to rest at Puri Kanuruhan.

After resting overnight at Puri Kanuruhan, Sheikh Batong was summoned to return to Prabu Brawijaya. At that time, the Majapahit ruler expressed his intention to ask Sheikh Betong's daughter, Siu Ban Ci, to become his garwa ampeyan or concubine wife.

The direct request from Prabu Brawijaya apparently received approval from Sheikh Bentong. In fact, Siu Ban Ci was finally brought along to face Prabu Brawijaya. Siu Ban Ci arrived at the Majapahit Palace, carried on the best palanquin from Puri Kanuruhan.

Prabu Brawijaya really loved Siu Ban Ci, this condition made Dewi Amarawati even more jealous and angry. In the Babad Tanah Jawi, it is told that when Dewi Amarawati had not yet had children, it turned out that Siu Ban Ci was already pregnant from the fruit of her love with Prabu Brawijaya. At that time, Palembang was still part of Majapahit's territory. In this area, there are also many residents from China. By entrusting it to Arya Damar, Prabu Brawijaya hopes that Siu Ban Ci will feel more at home in Palembang.

Arya Damar was the son of the King of Majapahit, Bathara Prabu Wikramawardhana with a concubine who was also of Chinese blood. Arya Damar, who is considered the uncle of Prabu Brawijaya, has the real name Swan Liong.

Prabu Brawijaya finally let go of the woman he loved so much to Palembang, and let Arya Damar marry Siu Ban Ci. Prabu Brawijaya gave conditions to Arya Damar, so that nothing would be done to Siu Ban Ci before the child of his love was born.

In fact, Prabu Brawijaya also requested that the baby in Siu Ban Ci's womb be given the name Naraprakosa when it is born into the world. The name Naraprakosa was chosen by Prabu Brawijaya, because it means strong man.

After birth, the fruit of Prabi Brawijaya's love with Siu Ban Ci was actually given the name Raden Hasan, and had a Chinese name, Jin Bun. When he grew up, Raden Hasan traveled to Java to meet his biological father.

When Prabu Brawijaya or Bhre Kertabhumi met his flesh and blood, he felt so happy. In fact, the Majapahit ruler appointed Raden Hasan as Duke of Demak.

Prabu Brawijaya also appointed Raden Hasan's younger half-brother, who was the fruit of Arya Damar's marriage to Siu Ban Ci, Raden Husain or Raden Kusen as Duke of Terung, who later became known as Arya Pecattanda.
