Acehnese Female King & Liberal Ulama

Acehnese Female King & Liberal Ulama

In 1641 AD, Sultan Iskandar Tsani died, he died without having a son as heir to the throne. As a result, the throne fell to his daughter Safiatuddin Syah as the female king of Aceh.

This action was clearly opposed by the Acehnese Ulama, because in Islam "Arrjalu Qowqmuna Ala Nisa", the leader of a country must be a man, because that is a dogma in the Islamic religion.

Even so, Safiatuddin Syah's teachings were defended by Nuruddin al-Raniri and Abdurrauf Singkel Mufti and the Acehnese Ulama who had liberal views. At that time, the Acehnese ulama were divided into two, some supported liberal ones and others supported orthodox ulama.

Later, the Orthodox clergy grew increasingly disgusted after his death

It turns out that Safiatuddin Syah who was appointed as the next head of state was also a woman (Sultanah Nurul Alam).

After the appointment of Sultanah Nurul Alam, the rebellion finally erupted. The rebellion was initiated by a hardline Islamic mass organization called wujudiyah. Previously, this mass organization during the era of Sultanah Safiatuddin Syah had been disbanded in Aceh.
