Event of Congregational Execution of 6000 Ulama & Their Families in Mataram
In 1648, Amangkurat I ordered the Mataram army led by Prince Aria, Tumenggung Nataairnawa, Tumenggung Suranata, and Ngabehi Wirapatra to carry out a congregational execution (massacre) of around 6000 people who were Ulama and their families. The massacre was carried out from the four cardinal directions. Within half an hour.
The 6,000 people who were massacred were actually people who were thought to be involved in the failed coup two days earlier. Prince Alit, the younger brother of Amangkurat I, who was assisted by Tumenggung Wiraguna two days earlier, carried out a coup attempt, but failed. In the failed coup incident, Prince Alit was killed.
Notes :
Events like this are actually events that usually occur in any history, especially in the history of failed coups. It was recorded during the Republic that around 3 million PKI members were killed and thrown into prison without trial after they failed to control the country. In Türkiye, too, when Erdogan's coup failed, the officers involved were given various sentences, including death.
In the case of Amangkurat I, it happened that the Ulama were involved in Practical Politics in supporting the Coup, so that the victims were from among themselves.
